Infra–Site
This is my central concern: infra — below, beneath, further.
What operates under us:
below culture,
under ideas,
beyond recognition or conscious recall.
In this sculptural approach, I try to direct attention toward these underlying structures without overt symbol or narrative reference, but through space, place, and stone.
In my civic-scale work, this means placing granite — the material that has chosen me for this operation — in response to a site and its use, its history, its form.
Blocks of stone, sometimes as large as buses, selected, broken, shaped, and reassembled with attention to gravity, balance, and friction; to mass, weight, and place.
What emerges is
a place of encounter,
something to be moved through,
and perhaps returned to.
I am currently seeking sites for this practice.
